International Travel Advice

Planning on going overseas?

International travel has become very popular with baby boomer's and with the announcement of Virgin Australia starting a flight to the USA from Sydney in December 2008 it means that we have more places to visit.

Airlines are not the only way to travel overseas, cruises are also fast becoming very popular with us ageing hipsters.

International package tours are also popular and now cater for several age groups. Many of the companies have 3 categories of age group tours, 20+, 40+ and 70+. If you want or need to travel with your family who may be a mixture of ages there are still plenty of tours who cater for all age groups. It is nice to have a choice.

For any overseas travel, you need to plan ahead to ensure you are not disappointed. I have talked to people that have put their passport application in too late and have not been able to travel on the dates they wanted. The same with visa applications, you need to allow enough time for them to be processed.

Make sure you download the international checklist. If you follow it, then you will avert any headaches later. The checklist covers things like vaccinations, passports, visas, insurance, international drivers license, accommodation, reservations, money, pet/house sitters and much more. It also tells you when to start preparing, such as when to apply for a passport.

The following pages also will give you an abundance of advice and links to official sites such as smart traveller and the passport office.

Also check out our travel stories page for some good information. Going solo or are you disabled, check the information on those pages too re travelling overseas.

* Always remember, when travelling overseas,it is essential to take along with you a positive attitude.Travel sometimes means expecting the unexpected; delays, detours, unfamiliar surroundings, strange languages and funny money, so, remember always take along a big smile.
