Adelaide, MY - CITY

Adelaide is the city I was born and grew up in. After traveling to many cities around the world and within Australia, I thought, what is there about my city that would entice people to come and visit. Especially the baby boomer/over 50 tourist. So I did some research (along with an over 50 friend or two) on my city and where possible I have visited several sites that are of interest to me. I have put links to websites for further information.

The following information has been taken from the various websites mentioned and Wikipedia.

Entertainment

The city rocks, it’s as simple as that. Whether you‘re after a live acoustic gig at the Governor of Hindmarsh (the Gov), a string quartet at the Festival Centre or a touring international act at the Entertainment Centre, this city has something for your musical taste. And there are dozens of boutique music festivals dotted throughout the regions where you can escape for an afternoon of food, wine and song.Click here to find out more Adelaide Entertainment

Festivals

WOMADelaide

WOMADelaide 2012 will be held from Friday 09 - Monday 12 March outdoors in the beautiful Botanic Park.

WOMAD is the World of Music, Arts & Dance.

WOMADelaide began in 1992 and has gone on to become one of Australia's favourite festivals; the 2010 festival attracted 81,500 attendances over four days (not including children 12 and under, who are admitted free).

The program features performances and workshops on seven stages by the world's best musicians, dancers and DJs, alongside street theatre artists and visual artists, the popular Taste the World cooking program, Artists in Conversations sessions and an All-Star Gala finale, plus around 100 food, crafts and display stalls and a KidZone.

Baby boomers and everyone else will enjoy this festival, it is entertainment plus and usually the weather is really good. Over 4 days of fun and entertainment in one of the prettiest settings in the Botanic Park next to the Botanical Gardens and the zoo.

is an arts festival held biennially in the South Australian capital of Adelaide.

Locally considered to be one of the world's greatest celebrations of the arts, that is internationally renowned and the pre-eminent cultural event in Australia.

It begun in 1960, the Festival is held in March of every even-numbered year. It is actually made up of several events, but overall features include opera, theatre, dance, classical and contemporary music, cabaret, and new media.

The festival is based in the city centre, principally in venues along the cultural boulevard of North Terrace, but also elsewhere in the city and its parklands. The success of the event is sometimes attributed to the city's unique design (known as Light's Vision) which provides many pleasant settings within short distance of each other. Festival of arts
