Corporate Travel

Corporate travel is growing, now that the world has become so much smaller due to travel becoming cheaper and the off-shore manufacture of many of our day to day requirements.

I have included a travel checklist with information on health and safety and links to the government websites to gain further information. It is important to check these sites as they have up to date information on countries you may be visiting and health precautions.

In my case, I have been to China twice to teach at the Nantong University over the last 2 years and there are many more doing the same.

I realised when I went to China, there was a lack of information on what to take, emergencies, health, who to contact etc. In fact a colleague and myself were on our own and left to fend for ourselves on one of the trips. Our organisation was unaware of the problem as our mobiles did not work and there was no phone to use. As I do not speak Chinese or understand the writing I had to use my experience from years of previous travels to get by. We also both got sick (flu due to pollution and mould in our rooms) and had to cancel some classes, therefore we had to work day and night to catch up.

It led to my thinking, what if someone was sent overseas who had never travelled before? What would they do? With that, I decided to put together information for staff going overseas for work to ensure they know what to do.

For Volunteers, I suggest you also use the above checklist or

the international travel checklist
