Travel Insurance

Travel Insurance, how important is it?

Due to the ever increasing numbers of baby boomer's travelling after retirement it is recognised that you may have special needs while you're away.

It is important to note that organising comprehensive insurance before you depart can save you the worry of unexpected medical costs.

No one wants to think of the worse case scenarios but once you are over 50 there is more chance of you falling ill.

So, it is better to be prepared.

There are many options, you could search the net, check your credit card freebies (my gold mastercard from westpac offers free travel insurance), COTA offer good rates for the over 50's baby boomer and check your private health cover as they often have reasonable rates. Lonely Planet use world nomad.

We have many tips on our checklist for you regarding your health some of which are, before you depart - check what vaccinations you need, visit your doctor, make up a small medical kit with essentials, check your medications are legal in the country you are visiting, wear comfortable shoes and wear a hat and sunscreen.

To avoid Deep Vein Thrombosis

* drink plenty of fluids (but avoid alcohol)

* while seated stretch your feet and lower legs

* walk around the cabin at regular intervals
